Description:
Elms are large, woody trees. The simple leaf has a toothed or doubly-toothed margin with parallel veins. Leaves are alternate. The seeds are round, papery samaras. Like hackberries, the bases of the leaves are oblique, meaning they do not reach the petiole at the same point. The leaves are a darker green than hackberries and have more prominent veins.
